Laparoscopic Gallstone Surgery

A little organ under the liver is called the gallbladder. Its function is to store any surplus bile the liver produces and secrete it into the small intestines, where it helps with digestion. These smaller, darker-colored stones are made of bilirubin. People with specific medical problems, such as liver cirrhosis, and blood illnesses like sickle cell disease or anemia are more likely to develop these stones. Triglyceride levels in the blood are typically greater in diabetics. This poses a significant risk for the development of gallstones.Cholecystectomy, often known as laparoscopic gallbladder removal surgery, is a relatively safe and efficient treatment. The hazards associated with this procedure are extremely low. Four tiny (keyhole-sized) incisions are made by the surgeon in the belly. The incision closest to the belly button is then used to introduce a laparoscope, which has an illuminated scope coupled to a camera. As he inserts the surgical instruments through the remaining incisions to remove the gallbladder, the surgeon is guided by a video monitoring screen. A specialized X-ray procedure known as intraoperative cholangiography may be used to assess the anatomy of the bile ducts prior to the removal of the gallbladder.
