Within the first week of life, circumcision is commonly performed on baby boys. Although it's less common, adults can still get circumcised. The skin covering the penis's rounded tip is known as the foreskin. The foreskin is fully fused to the penis when a newborn is born. The foreskin eventually separates from the penis head and develops the ability to retract, or pull back. Phimosis is the medical term for when the foreskin doesn't always separate as it should and stays tight. Phimosis is typically treated with further surgery or circumcision.
